The Society of Illustrators Original Art Show 2016
Terry and I were honored to attend the Original Art Show this year, as recipients of the Dilys Evans Founder's Award for The Night Gardener. The award is given out each year to recognize the most promising new talent in children's book illustration. Needless to say, we were incredibly surprised and humbled to receive this award. Huge thanks to the Society of illustrators, Dilys Evans, Barbara McClintock, and everyone on the jury.
It was a wonderful night, honoring such talents as Ed Young and Shel Silverstein, who both received a Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as the gold medal winner B. B. Crown, for most outstanding picture book of the year The Lost House.
Two silver medals were given to two amazing illustrators: Beth Krommes, for her beautiful work on Before Morning, and Daniel Miyares for his delightful book Bring Me A Rock!
On a personal note, I also got to meet some of my illustration heroes, Jon Klassen and Sophie Blackall, who were both wonderful people.
